A refurbished product: So much more than a second-hand one

It’s a question whose answer is unclear to many: What is the difference between a refurbished device and a used device? Where many think it is the same thing, also because many companies use the terms interchangeably, it is absolutely not! We believe it is important for our customers to know what they are buying, so we would like to clarify this crucial difference through seven points. Because at DubbelGaaf.nl you buy a refurbished product, not a used one. Are you reading along?

Authenticity

By authenticity we mean the degree of reliability surrounding the originality of a product. Also called the degree of authenticity of the product or brand. We see a clear difference in this between a refurbished product and a used item. For example, this degree is much higher for a refurbished item than for a used item. This is because we, the seller of the product, put a lot of effort into finding out the origin of the product. Besides giving you a certain security, it also saves you a lot of time. If it is not possible to discover the origin then we will not buy the product and therefore will not sell it. Also, with a refurbished website, you have much more transparency about this. Thus, on our website you will also find a clear indication of where our products come from.

The physical condition

Every seller of refurbished products strives to make the product look as new as possible. We also place a high priority on the condition of the product. We strive to minimize the traces of use on our products. This applies to both the housing and the software.

With a used product, there is a risk that the product has a completely new look but once you start using it, it turns out to be disappointing. Why this can be so disappointing is mainly shown by the following two points.

Return to factory settings

In addition to striving to have the best possible appearance, the “inside” of the product is also very high on the list. For example, it goes without saying that we reset every product to factory settings. As a result, you as a customer will experience a complete “like new” experience with your purchase. At DubbelGaaf.nl we want to give every customer, with every purchase again, the wow feeling.

A second-hand product differs greatly in this regard. For example, with such a product, it is precisely not a given that the software will be returned to factory settings. The “online” traces of use, such as bookmarks, files, etc, did disappear. But for the rest, you as the new owner will continue where the previous owner left off. So here the “like new” experience is completely missing.

Test procedure

Something else in which a refurbished is overwhelmingly different from a used one is the testing procedure. A refurbished product is extensively tested before you, the new owner, get your hands on it. This way we can always guarantee you that it works as it should. We are not talking about a simple test. The testing procedure we apply consists of several phases. We test the product when it comes in, during the reset to factory settings, before the product goes on sale and before you as a customer get the product. If a defect does occur, the product will not make it to the sale or we will clearly and unambiguously state what the problem is. That way, as a customer, you know exactly where you stand!

With a second-hand product, the situation is different. Here is not so much a complete test procedure. Often the product is tested but this is a simple test to see if the product still works yes or no. Once this is the case, it goes on sale and is not looked after.

Warranty

This point is very simple and at the same time very clear. A refurbished product has warranty and a used product does not. This warranty allows you, the customer, to return to the store in the event of a defect and have it repaired at no cost. With us this warranty is often one year, if there is a different term we will clearly state it. However, this warranty on a refurbished product is shorter than on a completely new product.

Support and maintenance

Refurbished products are eligible for certain support and maintenance. This is because as a refurbished retailer you work with products of a certain quality and test and clean them extensively. For used products, this does not apply because they are not cleaned and reset to factory settings. This gives you less rights as a customer that you practically get as a gift when you buy a refurbished product .

Point

Again, this point is actually quite simple and easy to understand. You buy a refurbished product in a (web) store. Often you will find a clear ‘about us’ page on the website that clearly and briefly formulates who you are dealing with. And in the store, of course, you have personal contact with one or more salespeople. With a used, second-hand product, it is often difficult to find out who the seller is. There is some information available but it is often very limited. In addition, with a used product, you can no longer appeal to the seller once the product is on your doorstep.

So, these are in seven points the differences presented between a refurbished and a used product. You can see that these points have a lot of common ground and are mostly recurring facts. Buying a used product is not wrong but especially if it is a laptop, computer or phone we recommend you to look further and choose a refurbished product. Besides giving you a completely clean and neat product, it also gives you a lot of security.
