As soon as a truck with a malfunction arrives at the workshop, we immediately reach for the tablet. Using specialized software, we read the truck’s on-board computer and quickly identify the error codes. This information is invaluable, as it allows us to quickly determine the root cause of the problem and develop a targeted repair strategy.
Rugged on the seven seas
Sharon talks about how she uses the Dell Latitude Rugged 7220 on her sailing boat.
During our pleasure sailing trips on the Oosterschelde and the North Sea we mainly use the tablet for navigation. With the OpenCPN program we always have up-to-date maps at hand. This program, in combination with the free availability of NLTides, enables us to view water levels and currents directly on the tablet. This means we do not have to purchase expensive maps and programs every year. After the one-time purchase of the tablet, all necessary data is available free of charge.
This not only means less cost, but also that we are always up to date.
“Versatile on the road”
I chose the Dell Latitude 7220 Rugged Extreme Tablet (LTE/4G+GPS), i5-8, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB storage. Windows 11 works perfectly on the tablet, without any lag or bugs, and I can run office programs without any problems.
The battery life with the two batteries is about 6 hours. Personally, I charge it via USB-C with a car charger, which is very practical during my work. The robustness of the tablet is impressive; it is waterproof and resistant to drops, bumps and moisture.
I mounted it on a PMT station (also from Dubbelgaaf) in a Tesla Y, and it works fine.
“Classic with a modern touch”
At L.E. Cars in Belgium, they know exactly what to do with the Dell 7220 Rugged Tablet. It’s the ideal assistant for reading and diagnosing vehicles. In this sometimes greasy environment, it’s handy to have a stylus handy.

The tablet is a jack of all trades. In my daily work, I can run all the software I normally have to run on a laptop, but with the compactness of a tablet, thanks to the Windows OS. Manage Dante networks and amplifiers, or configure sACN nodes via the wired network port Sound measurements display and via the USB port, I use this tablet for everything.
